Dance - A Gateway Resolution

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

I have an idea for your New Year's resolution: dance regularly, dance as often as you can. As we enthusiastically begin the new year with a promise to be better versions of ourselves, it's important that we make pick a resolution that's fun to stick with. When you do something because you absolutely enjoy it, you don't need to worry about accountability. You don't need apps/coaches/rules, you just do it.

Dancing has the ability to improve your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Although easier to stick with it is more than just a fun activity; it has numerous benefits for both the body and mind. Here are a few ways that dance can help you achieve your resolutions -

  • Maintain healthy weight: Dance is a great way to get in a full-body workout. Many styles of dance are high-energy and can help you burn calories while having fun. A 60 minute Bollywood class burns anywhere between 400-800 calories. (900 for me because I talk while dancing! hahah)

  • Take care of your mental health: Dance has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost self-esteem. It can be a great way to get out of your head and focus on the present moment.

  • Maintain a better mood: Dance releases endorphins, the "feel-good" chemicals in the brain. Whether you're feeling down or just need a pick-me-up, dancing can help lift your mood.

  • Better self-care: Dance is a form of self-expression, which can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth. It can also be a way to take a break from the stresses of daily life and focus on yourself.

  • Be more efficient and be more creative: Dance improves body confidence and confidence in yourself and reduces self doubt. It will reduce those could've / should've moments, create more clarity and save time that you might be spending in doubting yourself. Which also means it makes to more creative. Because creativity is all about doing things boldly, and doing things that in a way that you may have never done before.

So if you want to make a resolution that will help you accomplish all of your other goals, consider adding dance to your routine. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, there's a style out there for everyone. I would obviously (selfishly) recommend BollyX - The Bollywood Dance Workout, with a promise to make it accessible and enjoyable for you, whether you are a seasoned dancer or a person who has never moved in their life. Give it a try and see how it transforms your life in the new year.

Happy dancing!
